USBBY names 2016 outstanding international YA books

the last leaves falling sarah benwellThe United States Board on Books for Young People – or, adorably, USBBY – named its outstanding international books for 2016. Sponsored by the United States Board on Books for Young People, USBBY promotes international understanding and good will through books for children and adolescents.

The books named to the list for YA readers, or grades 9 – 12, are Germaine Amaktauyok and Gyu Oh’s My Name is Arnaktauyok: The Life and Art of Germaine Arnaktauyok, Sarah Benwell’s The Last Leaves Falling, Margreet de Heer’s Religion: A Discovery in Comics, Tonke Dragt’s The Letter for the King, Patti LaBoucane-Benson’s The Outside Circle: A Graphic Novel, Sharon E. McKay’s Prison Boy, and Marsa Forchuk Skrypuch’s Dance of the Banished.

USBBY made its announcement of the 2016 Outstanding International Books at the American Library Association’s midwinter conference.
