Uprooted tells the story of Agnieszka, a girl who lives in a village tormented by a malevolent power and watched over by a wizard known only as the Dragon.  In return for his protection, the Dragon demands the service of one young woman every ten years. As the next choosing approaches, Agnieszka fears that the Dragon will choose her dearest friend, Kasia. But when the Dragon comes, it is not Kasia he chooses.

The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Ellen DeGeneres is on board to produce the feature, along with Jeff Kleeman, her partner at A Very Good Production banner, who first brought the novel to DeGeneres’ attention.  Novik’s award winning Temeraire series has also been optioned for film, with Peter Jackson on board to produce.
