the princess diaries meg cabotThe 2001 Disney film The Princess Diaries, based on Meg Cabot’s best-selling young adult series, is set to be remade in a Bollywood adaptation. DNA India reported that Indian actress Sonam Kapoor was approached to star as Princess Mia, previously played by Anne Hathaway.

“A Bollywood remake of The Princess Diaries movie? Yes, please!” said Cabot on Twitter in response to the news.

In The Princess Diaries, New York City girl Mia Thermopolis is an average American teenager… and the only daughter of the prince of Genovia.  As a royal princess, Mia must take lessons from her dreaded grandmére, the dowager princess of Genovia, who thinks Mia has a thing or two to learn before she steps up to the throne.  But her father can lecture her until he’s royal-blue in the face about her princessly duty – no way is she moving to Genovia and leaving Manhattan behind.

The Princess Diaries series is available now. For more, visit Meg Cabot’s website or follow her on Facebook, Twitter or Tumblr.
