SCBWI announces WIP grant winners

The Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) announced this year’s winners of their Work-in-Progress grants. The Work-in-Progress grant is an annual prize awarded to children’s writers and illustrators to aid in the completion of a current project.

Karen Fortunati has been named the winner of the SCBWI grant for contemporary YA with The D-Day List, a novel about a teenage girl suffering from bipolar disorder and depression. There’s only one way out but before she can kill herself, she’s got to accomplish the one item on her D-Day List.  And if she does, it may change everything.

Deanna Romito received the runner-up grant with her novel Starting at Zero.  Merit letters were also awarded to Jennifer Kirkeby, Sabrina Fedel, and Ginger Johnson.
