Red House Children’s Book Awards winner announced

the 5th wave rick yanceyOn February 22nd at the Imagine festival, the winners of the 2014 Red House Children’s Book Awards awards were announced. The Red House awards are the only national book awards in the U.K. voted on exclusively by children and are organized by the Federation of Children’s Book Groups.

This year U.S. author Rick Yancey won the overall Red House Children’s Book Award for his YA science-fiction thriller The 5th Wave. Yancey’s novel also won the older readers category.

As winner of the overall Red House Children’s Book Award, Rick Yancey received the Red House Children’s Book Award Silver Tree which he will keep safe for one year. He also received an engraved silver acorn to keep. All other category winners received a silver bookmark. Every author and illustrator shortlisted for the awards received a portfolio of writing and art from children who were inspired by their work.
