Nicola Correia Damude cast as Maryse in “Shadowhunters”


city of bones cassandra clareCassandra Clare announced that Nicola Correia Damude will play Maryse in “Shadowhunters,” the upcoming TV adaptation of her Mortal Instruments series.

Maryse Lightwood is the head of the New York Institute of Shadowhunters and is the mother of Alec and Isabelle. Jace Lightwood is her adopted son. Damude is best known for her recurring guest roles in “Degrassi: The Next Generation” and “Haven.”

Clare clarified that the casting of Maryse was not formally announced as Damude would not be on the show often enough to count as a “recurring” cast member.

The adaptation will begin right at the start of City of Bones, the first book in the Mortal Instruments series. Clary Fray’s mother is kidnapped, forcing Fray into the dangerous world of the Shadowhunters. The cast includes includes Katherine McNamara as Clary Fray, Emereaude Toubia as Isabelle Lightwood, Dominic Sherwood as Jace Wayland, Alberto Rosende as Simon Lewis, Harry Shum Jr. as Magnus Bane, Matthew Daddario as Alec Lightwood and Isaiah Mustafa as Luke Garroway.
