MONSTROUS AFFECTIONS named best anthology

monstrous affections kelly link gavin j grantWhile the World Fantasy Awards continue to lack an official YA prize, it didn’t stop a YA book from snagging an award of its own at this year’s World Fantasy Convention. The YA anthology Monstrous Affections took home the award for best overall fantasy anthology in a ceremony held on November 8.

Edited by Kelly Link and Gavin J. Grant, Monstrous Affections is an anthology that highlights mythological beasts, where tales about harpies and vampires sit besides stories about aliens. Contributors to the YA anthology include Holly Black, Sarah Rees Brennan, Paolo Bacigalupi, Cassandra Clare and Patrick Ness.

Monstrous Affections defeated four adult anthologies to take home the prize: Fearful Symmetries, edited by Ellen Datlow; Long Hidden: Speculative Fiction from the Margins of History, edited by Rose Fox and Daniel José Older; Shadows and Tall Trees 2014, edited by Michael Kelly; and Rogues, edited by George R.R. Martin and Gardner Dozois.
