DUMPLIN’ movie optioned by Disney

Disney optioned the rights to a film adaptation of Julie Murphy’s upcoming YA novel Dumplin, according to Variety.

Releasing on September 15th, Dumplinfollows a confident fat girl who meets a former jock who seems to like her. When she begins to doubt herself, she enters a beauty pageant.

Disney is in talks with Michael Costigan to produce the Dumplin movie. He is currently working on “The Rosie Project” with Jennifer Lawrence.

Though the novel doesn’t release until September, bloggers who received advanced copies of the book have loved it and already expressed their enthusiasm for the potential movie – and for a potential strong, confident fat lead.
