Danielle Macdonald will star as the lead in the upcoming adaptation of Dumplin’.
Dumplin’ follows Willowdean, a self-proclaimed fat girl, after she gets a job at a local fast-food joint, Harpy’s. Her new job sets her on a new path that ultimately leads her to enter her town’s local beauty pageant, much to the dismay of her peers and her former beauty queen mother.
Macdonald earned accolades from her break out role in the Sundance movie Patti Cake$. Jennifer Aniston will start opposite Macdonald as her former beauty queen mother and act as executive producer.
Dumplin’ will be directed by The Proposal‘s Anne Fletcher. Others attached to the film are Kristin Hahn, who wrote the adaptation, Michael Costigan, Mohamed al-Rafi, and Trish Hofmann. They are all set to produce.
