wildlife fiona wood australianThe Children’s Book Council of Australia named Fiona Wood’s Wildlife its Book of the Year.

Wildlife follows Sibylla as she enters an outdoor education program and meets new girl Lou.

The Children’s Book Council of Australia began the Book of the Year award in 1946, eventually separating the categories into an Older and Younger Readers category. This year’s judges report noted “the inclusion of social realism in many of the books gave young adults something to relate to in the serach for identity and rites of passage.”

Honorees this year included Fairytales for Wild Girls by Allyse Near and The Sky So Heavy by Claire Zorn.
