BookExpo America announces 2016 YA Editors’ Buzz Panel picks

BookExpo America announced its finalists for its 2016 Young Adult Editors’ Buzz Panel.

The five books selected for the panel are Caraval by Stephanie Garber, Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco, Rani Patel in Full Effect by Sonia Patel, Spontaneous by Aaron Starmer, and Thieving Weasels by Billy Taylor.

In Stephanie Garbel’s Caraval, two sisters get pulled into the mythical performance of Caraval, where the magic may be more real than it seems. Caraval releases from Flatiron Books on August 30.

Audrey slips away from her home to study forensic medicine and finds herself drawn into the investigation of a serial murder in Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper. Stalking Jack the Ripper releases from JIMMY Patterson on September 20.

After her father leaves her mother for another woman, Rani shaves her head in mourning in Sonia Patel’s Rani Patel in Full Effect. The act of rebellion catapults her into hip-hop performance and forces her to speak out against those who would silence her. Rani Patel in Full Effect releases from Cinco Puntos Press on October 20.

In Aaron Starmer’s Spontaneous, students are spontaneously combusting at Covington High School. Spontaneous releases from Dutton Books for Young Readers on August 30.

In Billy Taylor’s Thieving Weasels, Skip O’Rourke is dragged into one last con, but he doesn’t know the con’s on him. Thieving Weasels releases from Dial Books for Young Readers on August 23.

The selection process was made by three separate committees of booksellers, librarians and other industry professionals. The Young Adult Editors’ Buzz Panel will take place on May 12 at BookExpo America, with a Meet The Authors panel to follow the next day.
