On February 14, 2014, the winners of the 2013 Cybils Awards were announced.  The Cybils Awards are “given each year by bloggers for the year’s best children’s and young adult titles,” according to their website.

During the public nomination period, any member of the public may nominate books that have been published in the U.S. or Canada (English and bilingual books are allowed) specifically for the “youth market.” Once the public has completed their round of nominations, authors, publishers and publicists are able to submit their nominations.

For the 2013 Cybils Awards, the young adult categories included Graphic Novels, Nonfiction, Speculative Fiction, and YA Fiction. Winners for each category are as follows:

  • Graphic Novels: Templar by Jordan Mechner (Nominated by Compass Book Ratings)
  • Nonfiction: Imprisoned: The Betrayal of Japanese Americans during World War II by Martin W. Sandler (Nominated by: Deb Nance at Readerbuzz)
  • Speculative Fiction: The Summer Prince by Alaya Dawn Johnson (Nominated by: thereadingzone)
  •  YA Fiction: Yaqui Delgado Wants to Kick Your Ass by Meg Medina (Nominated by: Madelyn Rosenberg)
